SIM activation system 789 has been suspended on the directive of PTA due to which thousands of sims could not be activated.
Customers who bought SIMs from outlets and franchises in past 2 days failed to get their SIMs activated due to suspension of 789 SIMs activation system.
On calling 789, customers found the following recorded message:Our company has been ordered by PTA to suspend SIM Activation System 789 to stop SIMs sale at customer care centres, franchises and retail shops as per directives of Ministry of Interior, which earlier proposed a new system of SIMs sale to the residents of customers.
Despite the orders given by Prime Minister to continue SIMs selling via initial system 789 with NADRA confirmation, the companies have not obtained the directive so far, thus the selling of SIMs has been ceased.

PTA(Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) has ordered all mobile phone companies to immediately shut down all late night call packages.
According to PTA Chairman Farooq Awan these night call packages are immoral and are promoting vulgarity. Also a huge number of complaints from Supreme court, Parliment members and standing comitte or Parliment have been recieved.
The PTA says it recognises that liberalisation and tough competition in the cellular mobile market have pushed operators to introduce various promotional packages to subscribers. However, the PTA insists that as long as practices “against social norms” are not encouraged, the operators are free to continue providing better quality of services to their subscribers at affordable prices.Protection of consumer interests is specified under Section 18 (1) of the act and the PTA is required to submit yearly reports on the same to the federal government. At the same time, under Section 6 (a) of the act, the authority is also bound to protect the rights of licensees.

Pakistan Telecom Authorities has instructed all telecommunications service providers to instantly quit all award systems, prizes even if they are genuine, or services will have to face law suit from PTA according to law.
Pakistan Telecom Authorities classified these award systems as inaccurate and against Telecom Consumer Protection Control and hence instructed all telecommunications services to quit such promotions with immediate effect to avoid any legal action. Some of these offers include Ufone Shahkar offer, Warid sms crore ka etc.
Inami Schemes or fortunate attracts are considered a profitable income influx for telecommunications services. Industry sources suggest that one such program brings in PKR 4 to 5 thousand for a telecommunications owner per day or PKR 150 thousand a month.
However, such systems are usually inaccurate and result into loss of valuable cash for telecommunications customers. These award systems, formally declared and offered by telecommunications services, give an opportunity to bogus people to bogus the systems and generate income through unlawful means.
PTA has asked telecommunications services to publish their conformity report in two days. Here is the official letter:
